Overview
Bored Piles are cylindrical vertical bodies made of concrete which are installed in the ground, transmitting high structural loads into lower, load bearing soils. Bored piles are efficient and cost-effective solution when installing into cohesive soils.
Purpose of Shotcrete Walls
- Can be used for massive construction complexes where the load of the vertical building structures is huge
- Can be used in difficult soil conditions
- Piles can be extended to go beyond the depths of the frost penetration and seasonal moisture variation
- While Bored Piling is in process, there is no need for massive excavations of large amount of ground and subsequent backfill is minimized
- Very high load capacity. Large capacity caissons can be constructed by expanding the base of the pile shaft up to 3 times the shaft diameter and eliminating the need for covers over multiple pile. There are many design situations, where higher capacities and economics are obtained using bored piles
- They can be installed in a wide range of soil and rock conditions. Piles of any length can be easily extended through any soil type such as soft, loose or swelling soils into the suitable bearing material
The Process
- All reinforcement for piling is manufactured off-site and it is delivered prior commencement of the drilling holes.
- Installing a bored pile starts with drilling a vertical hole into the soil, using a bored piling machine. Piles can be drilled to a depth of up to 60 meters and a diameter of up to 2.4 meters.
- Once the desired depth is achieved reinforcement cages (bound structures of special rod and reinforcing elements) are placed in the pier.
- The cages – structures of special rod and reinforcement elements, are used for reinforcement.
- We supply concrete during the piling process according to engineers’ specifications. The concrete filling can be done in 3 ways:
- If the access is good the concrete is placed into the pier from the agitator (concrete truck)
- On sites with restricted access, we pump the concrete into the pier with a boom pump
- Boparai Concreting Piling has a solution for sites with even tighter access or bad terrain where the concrete is not supposed to fall more than 3 meters. In these cases we pump the concrete with line pump
Roles and Responsibilities: Shotcrete Walls
- 1st mark out (completed with spray paint & shooting levels)
- (If required) 2nd mark out (completed with spray paint & shooting levels). This is to be completed once the site cut out has been completed
- Drilling of holes
- Reinforcement for piling to be manufactured off-site and delivered prior to commencement of drilling holes
- Work with engineer to work out quantity of concrete required
- Putting the reinforced cages into position in the pier
- Ordering of the concrete (to engineers specification)
Client:
- Set out survey. This can be completed by the builder or a surveyor. This involves transferring a building design onto the land itself so the builders can follow it during construction
- Supply plans, permits and set out
- Submit plans
